Pablo Francisco
If I could do an impression of Don LaFontaine as well this guy, that's how I'd talk ALL THE TIME.

Music decoded from 600 year old carvings
From /.: "Musicians recently unlocked a 600 year old mystery that had been encoded into the walls of the Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, the one featured in The Da Vinci Code. The song was carved into the walls of the chapel in the form of geometric shapes that a father-son team — both are musicians and the father is an ex-Royal Air Force code breaker — finally matched to so-called Chladni patterns (see the Wikipedia article on cymatics)." There's a video with the music. Go listen to it!

According to Fox News, most of Fox News isn't News.
I'm not surprised at the conclusion, just the admission.

Solar hot air ballon!
This is a really neat idea. I tried making one last summer, and it didn't work out too well. You didn't see ME in the news floating to Colorado Springs.

"There's no way to be cool when your instrument is larger than you."
Margaret pointed out this video to me. Shoot. Now I'm going to be hearing that music all day.

LOLCODE
Ok, some people are put off by LOL cats, specifically by their poor grammar. But a programmer liked it enough to make a functioning programming language out of LOLspeak. The vocabulary isn't that big, but the result is a surprisingly thorough and functional language. Hrm. I would argue that since LOLspeak can be used to create an unambiguous programming language, that demonstrates that it has a consistent grammatical structure. But I will concede that some people will still find it annoying.

Self defense with a cane or umbrella... 1901
(From Make) Here's a self defense style you've probably never seen. How the 1901 gentleman defends himself with his cane. I haven't studied it yet, but the big thing seems to be protecting the hand without the protective hilt on a sword. (Hrm. I wonder if that could be applied to lightsaber style.) They mention Single Stick fighting... Oh, and the Single Stick has a hand guard. (A basket hilt is kind of a cage around the weapon hand.) And Single Stick evolved into Canne de combat, which evolved into a sport? Cane fighting as a sport? Dude, I would totally watch that on ESPN.

Kite Ice Butt Boarding!
I'm glad I saw this video in the spring. It reduces the odds of me breaking my neck on the ice.

Induction Forge
In this interview with Louie Raffloer, there's a video demonstrating his induction forge. My Emag is a little rusty. But as I recall, induction happens when you have current flowing through a coil. The moving electric charges creates a magnetic field in the center. When you then change the current, the established magnetic field resists the change. Apparently this resistance can create quite a bit of heat in the material in the center of the coil. Crazy awesome.
Matrix Cat Fight
If you haven't seen the Matrix sequels, this video isn't nearly as funny. But it's just as cute.
